ABOUT THE ROLE
​
Against the Grain manufactures custom timber windows, doors, and joinery for builders, architects and homeowners. We have a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, delivering premium products in the Blue Mountains, and across NSW and the ACT.
​
As our hands-on Factory Manager, you will be on the tools and manage the factory floor. You will lead a skilled team while also actively participating in manufacturing custom timber windows, doors and joinery. A significant proportion of your time will be spent completing joinery work, operating machinery, solving production issues, and supporting the team.
​
A motivated leader, you will apply your strong manufacturing experience to consistently achieve quality standards, production targets, and delivery schedules. Your leadership skills will drive productivity while maintaining a safe, efficient, and positive workplace culture.
​
Working closely with our small management team, you will have a key role in continuous improvement, staff development, and operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage day-to-day operation of the factory

Manufacture custom timber windows, doors, and joinery

Set-up and operate woodworking machinery, including CNC equipment

Provide practical leadership from the factory floor, assisting with complex manufacturing tasks

Plan, coordinate, and monitor production schedules to meet client deadlines

Lead, supervise, and mentor manufacturing team including apprentices

Ensure all products meet quality standards and client specifications

Monitor workflows, labour, and productivity balancing quality with efficiency

Enforce WHS policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace

Coordinate material requirements with the purchasing and inventory teams

Identify and implement process improvements to minimise waste and inefficiencies

Collaborate with estimating, sales, and installation teams to ensure seamless delivery

Monitor production costs and contribute to budgeting and operational planning
ABOUT YOU
​

Hands-on experience in timber window and door manufacturing or architectural joinery
-
Proven experience managing a manufacturing or production facility
-
Ability to be on the tools while managing the factory
-
Strong leadership and people management skills
-
Exceptionally organised with problem-solving ability

Proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement

Working knowledge of current workplace health and safety requirements

Confidence using production software and Microsoft Office
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Trade qualification in joinery, cabinet making, carpentry or related field

Certificate IV or Diploma in Manufacturing, or Leadership & Management

Experience with 5-axis CNC and modern woodworking machinery
